Whetstone Property |
 |
Whetstone property is situated in the N20 London Borough of Barnet. It took its name from the stone situated outside the Griffin Pub on Whetstone High Road, A1000. This was the original road north to Edinburgh from London formerly known as the Great North Road. Whetstone properties can trace their origins back to medieval times and there has been an inn on the site of the Griffin pub for many centuries, hence the need for the whetstone, used for sharpening tools and knives. Legend has it that this stone was used by soldiers before the battle of Barnet in April 1471.
Indeed much Whetstone property is situated on roads named for the various dukes involved in the battle and the wider War of The Roses. Whetstone property consists largely of semi detached houses built in the thirties and large detached residences as typified by the Whetstone property built in the 1870's on the Oakleigh Park Estate. The area has excellent schools, access to a large number of parks and open spaces and includies two golf courses.
Many of the properties in Whetstone are on quiet residential roads with the houses benefiting from large gardens and garages with many backing on to open space. In addition to this existing Whetstone property, several developments of luxury apartments with communal gardens have been built to accommodate people downsizing but wishing to stay in the area. |
