The area of Cheam lies in both the London Borough of Sutton and Surrey. In this respect Cheam properties enjoy the benefits of a close proximity to central London and a rural environment. Cheam falls roughly into three areas, North Cheam, Cheam Village and South Cheam. Each area offers something slightly different in respect of Cheam property.
The village for example has much Tudor revival architecture that dates back to Henry VIII's building project of Nonsuch Palace. No such palace now exists as the palace was pulled down in 1862 by Lady Castlemaine, who had been gifted the palace by her lover Charles II. The materials, fixtures and fittings were sold off to pay off her gambling debts, perhaps the first recorded instance of Cheam property being used for architectural reclaim. However Nonsuch Park remains along with Cheam Park and Beddington Park which helps to give Cheam property it's rural and village feel. Much of the rest of the stock of properties in Cheam consists of Edwardian and Victorian family homes with a large supply of homes built in the twenties and thirties as part of the growth of the suburbs.
